Here’s a few reasons why training with a trainer or training partner is a great idea.
COMMITMENT: If you make a time and day to meet someone for a training session, you are more likely to keep that appointment. If you cancel or don’t show up, you not only let yourself down but also your partner. Whether it is your husband, wife, sister, workmate or just someone you have met at the gym, if you make that commitment to that person you will want to keep it. And if it is a financial commitment then of course you are going to keep that appointment!!!
MOTIVATION: How many times have we got to a point in a training session by ourselves and just thought…this is starting to hurt now, I might stop…or on the treadmill, just give in because you are starting to hurt and fatigue.
My training partner just recently suggested “why don’t we go for 6k’s on the treddy today!!!” After a full day at work and a workout already done, I instantly thought – I really don’t want to do that!!! But anyway, off we go…2k’s in my lungs start to burn, the legs start to feel heavy…”keep pushing, you can do this” says a voice from the treadmill next to mine. Yes I can keep going…I don’t want to let her down by stopping. I push on. By 5 k’s I am in a world of pain….as is she…”come on we can do this…only 1km to go…let’s just focus and get it down.” We say to each other. And guess what? We just put our heads down and went for it…and 6k’s ticked over on the dial…6k’s achieved!!!!! All thanks to the motivation of training partners. It works both ways, I urged her on, and she urged me on…task completed!!!
SUPPORT: Having a support networkaround you will help in many ways. While exercising it will help push you further. Keeping the intensity level up there making you work harder than you would by yourself. So the results will come from your training. And the days when things have been hard, whether its work, life, children…your trainer or training partner is there with a smile and encouraging words to cheer you up. There is also the safety issue as well. If you like training with heavy weight, safety is the main priority. Withyour trainer working with you, and knowing your limits and capabilities, they won’t let you go beyond your abilities.
FRIENDSHIP: It’s a great way to make friends or just to spend time with your friends. As long as you don’t spend the hour chatting about Friday night plans!! If you don’t have anyone in your circle of friends that can train with you, ask your trainer, they might know of someone who is in the exact same position, looking for a training partner. Or if your gym has a notice board, put a notice up.
So training with a training partner is beneficial to you training program. It is the same as training with your Personal Trainer; they are there to support and help you through the rough patches.
Encouragement is a powerful thing. We all like to be inspired and cheered on. That’s what makes us winners!
And then when you both hit your goals….you can both go for a relaxing pedicure or facial together. Or tell your Trainer how awesome they are!! And then set your new goals to smash!!!!
