Katie DePaoli has a different story to most challengers! Katie was the first ever winner of our “Little Black Dress” Challenge in 2013!! (you can check that transformation out here). This time Katie’s goals were totally different and for a very different reason! Katie recently had her first child, and through-out her pregnancy gained a lot of weight that she wasn’t used to. Her focus was to find her balance again, this time with a new born, and to get her energy levels up again, and her fitness levels to help her cope better with the demands of a new born. Again, with incredible focus and a ‘non-negotiable’ attitude, Katie made a SENSATIONAL transformation dropping 10kgs and bringing back the happy and confident girl she is!!
What was your motivation to enter the 12 Week “Little Black Dress Challenge”?
The 12 week challenge is only the beginning of the lifestyle change that I needed. I desperately needed to lose weight, gain my fitness back and increase my energy levels. After gaining over 20kgs with my pregnancy, I needed to do something about it. I was embarrassed to go out in public, couldn’t fit into any of my maternity clothes and felt unhappy when I should be the happiest time of my life. I know having a baby is a magical thing and I shouldn’t be so hard on myself but it was my own fault for putting so much weight on. (I think I was eating for 6 babies). This is definitely not my first 12 week challenge but this one was definitely the hardest, Workout out, getting enough sleep and following a healthy breastfeeding diet was going to be hard with a new baby so the challenge was exactly what I needed to kickstart my healthy lifestyle!
What were your goals for the challenge?
I’m not going to lie and say that I wanted to get fit and eat better as my ultimate goal, because I really wanted to lose some weight. What I have realised that getting fit and eating healthy would result in me losing the weight I required!
My goals were:
* Lose weight!
* Get fit and run again
* Eat healthy
* Increase energy levels
*Lose weight 🙂
* And some more weight
How did you go with your goals? What achievements did you make? What benefits do you feel?
After the last 12 weeks, I have achieved all the goals I wanted and some more. I have lost 10kgs in the last 12 weeks, my diet is clean and healthy, I have increased my energy levels and I can run again (not running the distances I used to, but slowly getting there). I have been able to put in a box all my ‘fat’ clothes and I’m starting to fit into some of my pre-pregnancy clothes again. This is so exciting to me considering it’s only been 12 weeks and I will continue doing what I’m doing and lose more! Did I mention how freaking happy I am with how I am feeling again!!! 🙂
What did you do to achieve your results?
I continued doing my Bootcamp for Women sessions but I also started walking on the opposite days which has now increased to running. I also stepped it up and started a session in the studio which was great for increasing my weights and pushed me harder. I try and do something every day and make it fun and I feel horrible when I don’t exercise for a couple of days. I had decreased my meal sizes by half and starting eating more vegetables and snacking on healthy option throughout the day. I increased my water intake and really concentrated on getting at least 2 litres each day. I also noticed this meant I wasn’t snacking as much throughout the day.
I found that if I didn’t prepare my week and my meals if I became busy I would opt for the easy takeaway options. takeaway food is the easy option for when you are unprepared so I made sure I was always prepared and my meals sorted.
What permanent lifestyle changes have you made?
I know I’ve said it before that I will continue healthy lifestyle but this time I’m really going to try harder! With pregnancy #2 on the cards next year, I really don’t want to make the same mistake twice. I’m also going to continue exercising no matter what life throws at me and I want to show that exercising and eating healthy is a lifestyle for my children. I want to lead by example and I can’t do that if I’m overweight and not eating well. My life has definitely changed and I’m much more confident and love going out in public now. I never want to feel that overweight again! BRING ON THE NEXT 12 WEEKS!! 🙂
