The Truth About Calories…
A calorie is a calorie…. FALSE!!
Less is Better…. FALSE!!
Nutrition is more important than calories…. TRUE!!
Calories seem to have a lot of power over some people. They have been used over the years as a way to measure how much energy you can burn versus how much energy you eat. This could be helpful if :
a) it was accurate
b) life was as simple as the calories in vs calories out theory.
c) our health was only dependent on calories and not vital nutrients and hydration.
If a change in body shape, be it fat loss or muscle gain, is your goal, calories can play an important role. However if there is no nutrient value in the calories being consumed you leave the door wide open to disease and inflammation.
All calories are NOT equal.
Take a 53g Mars bar at 241Cals, 9g Fat, 30.3g sugar, 1.9g protein 0.7g fibre and a big fat ZERO on vital nutrients. You could lose “weight” on a diet of 3 Mars bars a day, however the lack of nutrients would eventually lead you down a dangerous path. The “weight” that you may be losing would mainly be water and muscle.
You would be far better off eating more calories from whole foods provided by Mother Nature than low calorie food like products manufactured by people in white coats.
Calories don’t feed our cells, nutrients feed our cells. Have you ever had a junk food meal and been really hungry again within a short amount of time? This is because the junk food you ate is not good enough to nourish your cells so your body creates new cells… FAT CELLS to hold the toxic waste, while your live cells are still crying out for some nutrition.
Cells that don’t receive adequate nutrition are more susceptible to disease, and will degenerate faster than healthy cells. Doctors are currently seeing over weight and obese CHILDREN with aliments that we normally associate with old age. Which brings up another point that disease doesn’t have to be a “normal” part of the aging process.
If you eat 1000 calories of processed food, you can undo the damage by burning 1000 calories on the treadmill…. FALSE, FALSE, FALSE!! This little exercise may be beneficial for you to see just how hard you need to work to burn 1000 calories and may deter you from overeating or binging on junk. If the equipment you are using is giving you an accurate measure of calories, you will only have dealt with the calories… There is still the toxins and inflammation to take care of which can’t be undone in one intense workout. A consistently healthy lifestyle is the only thing that can help you manage that.
