Hi this is Tegan, and here’s some tips on how to find the right headspace for your successful health and fitness journey.
The mind is a powerful thing, so powerful in fact that it can be the difference between a successful weight loss journey and a never ending battle with the bathroom scales.
Everyone knows the ‘secret’ to losing weight revolves around exercise and correct nutrition, these are two very simple concepts… eat less, move more. So then why are so many of us stuck in that same vicious cycle? It all comes down the third component, possibly the most important one of all, our mind set. I’ve seen so many times, people turning up to the gym consistently week in week out, but their heart is just not in it because they have a negative frame of mind. Then when they truly commit and their mind set takes a positive shift they start to see the results they’ve been looking for all this time!
I believe that part of the issue is the unrealistic pressure and expectations we put on ourselves. It all starts on Sunday night, feeling the effects of another big weekend. Sick and tired of feeling less than average we decide Monday’s the day! We set a bunch of unrealistic goals and standards for the weeks to come. So Monday morning we hit the gym, eat healthy, drink plenty of water. Then before you know it midweek rolls around and those self sabotaging demons in your head start to throw you off track again. So we decide “I’ll start fresh again on Monday.” Lucky there are 52 Mondays in a year!
The first step to combating this repetitive cycle and beating it once and for all is to realize that you have complete control over your own mind and body! No one else, just you. There will always be circumstances and events out of your control but ultimately it is you who has the power to decide how you will deal with those disruptions, you can sit down and eat chocolate or you can hit the treadmill and weights. Truth is a good hard slog in the gym will put you in a much better frame of mind to deal with these little set-backs.
All you need to do is make the commitment to yourself to live the life you envisioned, and then make the decision to follow through on it. No one else can do it for you. Just take control of yourself, and surround yourself with a positive support network. We are all capable of achieving health and happiness if we truly believe in ourselves.
So to hell with Monday’s and unrealistic goals, make the commitment to change your life starting right now!
Don’t over think it, just get it done!
