Mid 2013 Red E ran a Community “Your Best Body” 8 Week Challenge for The Leukaemia Foundation. One of the amazing transformations over the eight weeks, and major prize winner was Wayne Hedrick!
Wayne would have to be the (now) fittest almost-60-year-old that we have every trained! Wayne has always been a keen cyclist, and a few weeks prior to the start of the YBB Challenge, he rode out to Tieri in two days to raise money for his niece who is fighting cancer, and it was then he realised how unfit he was and that it was adrenalin alone that got him there. He was inspired to get fit and loose the belly fat and saw the “Your Best Body” 8 Week Challenge as the perfect opportunity to start!
The Leukaemia Foundation is very close to his heart as well as his brother-in-law had the disease and nearly twenty years ago he raised money by riding home from Brisbane and Sydney.
Wayne’s goals for the challenge were to tone up, feel fitter and better going forward the next twenty years! He also knew he had to drink lots more water, and get rid of the Coke that snuck in every day! He also wanted to start back with his bike riding more seriously, starting with 40kms a day, then longer term, he would love to qualify for the Masters Games in Alice Springs in October 2014!
As soon as the challenge started, Wayne was back on his bike and was riding 30kms every second day! He also set a further goal, and nominated for the 60km event in the River to Reef Ride this year. He now feels he has turned the corner with his fitness and feels great!!
Wayne set a plan to do the 20 minute workout in the “8 Week Body Transformation Guide”, then built up to 30 minutes every second day on his exercise bike, then 30kms on the road every other day! He also attended every single Bootcamp Session put on by Red E for the Challenge – and was even so committed on the final Saturday that he drove back from Airlie Beach to attend!
Wayne results were outstanding! He was the “Biggest Loser” in the challenge, dropping 7.6kgs, 12cm off his belly button and 6% body fat, in the eight weeks! He now drinks NO softdrink, replacing that with 2-2.5litres of water every day. He overhauled his whole diet and now eats breakfast every single day (only occasionally did prior to the challenge) and now that he has smaller, more regular meals and snacks throughout the day, he is not looking for other food in between!
Wayne says, “I now feel that every day I get up and I am wanting to go and do some exercise as I have a lot more energy! I am most certainly going to keep it going now and will start off with Bootcamp Sessions with Red E so my long term goal of going to Alice Springs Masters Games in 2014 can be achieved!”
Once the 8 Week Challenge was complete, Wayne wasn’t going to slip back into his old habits, and has committed to on-going Training Sessions with the Red E Team! We look forward to helping him to his goal to the Masters Games! Stay tuned!
