Dorianne Vassallo has continued to go from strength to strength ever since she began training with us in our first ever ‘beginners’ Bootcamp Program in August 2014 – Bootcamp101. Dorianne is a quiet achiever; she puts absolutely everything in to every single session, never making excuses and always impressing us with her effort. One of the most satisfying results has been the increase in her confidence. From being apprehensive to starting, Dorianne has come out of her shell, and as well as training with us, she stepped out of her comfort zone and enjoys the LRC Running program.
Dorianne has made a conscious effort to become the best version of herself. She took part in our 12 Week “Little Black Dress” Challenge in 2015 in which she made some incredible changes and has continued with more progress ever since. She always had an incredibly positive attitude even at 5:30am in the morning!! Dorianne’s consistency and never ending effort has earned her some amazing results so far and we can’t wait to see what more she can achieve!! Congratulations to our January 2016 ‘Client of the Month’ – Dorianne!!
What was your motivation to start training with us here at Red E?
Although I didn’t think I looked overweight, my body fat percentage was creeping up to a number that I wasn’t happy with. I had seen an ad for Red E’s beginner Bootcamp 101, so decided to give that a go. Once I started, I was motivated by the other awesome women in the group, who were giving it their best.
What were your goals?
My main goal was to reduce my body fat percentage.
How have you gone with your goals? What achievements have you made?
At the start, although the scales were not showing that I was loosing weight, my clothes were definitely starting to fit better. Eventually, I was fitting back into clothes that I hadn’t been able to wear for a long time. My body fat has reduced and muscles increased.
Along the way, I also continue to improve my time for a 1km run. That is a great feeling! (Confirmation that I’m better than the month before.) On those days, I am buzzing all day, and I can’t wait to tell anyone (who asks what I am so happy about) about my latest achievement.
What benefits do you feel?
I feel stronger and more confident in myself.
What did you do to achieve your results?
At the start, I made a commitment to attend Bootcamp three days per week. After about days months, I felt confident enough to try Layzee Runners also.
So now it’s Bootcamp 3 days and on the other 3 days I either join the Layzee Runners for a 5 km morning run, or do a workout and run from home. Sundays are my rest day.
I had already limited the amount of sugar I consume, but I still have a sweet tooth. To take care of that, I looked into healthier alternatives that I can prepare myself at home, which are more based on nuts, dates, coconut, dried fruit and cacoa. As long as I have some of them in the freezer, I am less likely to be tempted by Tim Tams, cakes, etc.
What permanent lifestyle changes have you made?
Generally looking after myself better. I make time for exercise, think about the food I eat, and drink more water during the day.
Fave “clean” food: Chicken Cesar Salad
Fave ‘not so clean’ food: Flavoured ice-creams (like from Gelatissimo) or any other yummy desserts.
Fave exercise: I like the boxing sessions the most. But I generally enjoy all of the Bootcamp sessions. That’s why I keep coming back. Each session is different and challenging.
Most “Dreaded” exercise: Jump lunges.
Favourite Quote? I have a few at the moment:
“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t do.”
“You only fail when you stop trying.”
“Everyday is a chance to get better.”
“Life is like a camera… FOCUS on what’s important, CAPTURE the good times, DEVELOP from the negatives, and if things don’t work out, TAKE ANOTHER SHOT.”
Advice for others starting out…
Find a form of exercise that you enjoy – you are more likely to stick at it then. I find group exercise is great because you get motivation (to keep going and try harder) from the other people around you. And a few more quotes:
“You can think forever, but nothing is going to change unless you do something.”
“Loose your excuses, you will then find your results.”
“Don’t complain about things you’re not willing to change.”
